The Living Legacy Jazz Award was created in 1994 as a way to honor living jazz masters in Mid Atlantic Arts’ nine state region.  The Award has always focused on contributing to the perpetuation of the jazz legacy and education with an emphasis on passing skills and knowledge to the next generation of musicians. The first awardee was trumpeter Clark Terry and 28 stellar artists have joined him since – including our 2022 awardee, Roger Humphries.

Arts Funding Opportunities Round-up: July 2022

New: PECO's new Powering the Arts Grant application is now open and "offers one-year or two-year grants of up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of $20,000 over two years to support new or ongoing efforts to attract diverse audiences and rebuild arts communities across the region."

Highlights: The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's ArtsCONNECT application is now open for "touring projects between September 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023 and the NFA grant program has reopened for Latinx artists and organizations of all disciplines based in the U.S.

Stranger Days is the acclaimed, adventurous quartet led by a third-generation member of one of jazz’s most innovative family trees and Of Shadow and Substance" is a newly commissioned work by sound artist Lea Bertucci, with an opening set by bassist Luke Stewart.

UArts Capital Campaign Raises $67.2 Million

Lovett Hines Wins Jazz Journalists Association Award

Other regional winners include bassist, composer, and educator Ed Hrybyk of Baltimore, Massachusetts-based Terri Lyne Carrington, a drummer, composer, and educator who has been a keynote speaker at the Jazz Philadelphia Summit; and Sara Donnely from Washington, D.C., a longtime jazz advocate who administers programs that support jazz musicians at South Arts.

Love Notes project Celebrates Black Art

The forthcoming Love Notes Project is the brainchild of Rebecca Graham. It’s part of an arts education and advocacy program that will showcase and celebrate the rich legacy and historical significance of Black Philadelphia performing artists and cultural producers.

‘Dangerous Tones’ Comes to Philadelphia
