what we do
We amplify + illuminate the work of our community, including the musicians who have been shaped by our city’s formidable scene. Our online publication Whole Notes includes our Hometown Heroes program of ongoing artist profiles, news, thoughts, events, stories, and features from our Philadelphia Jazz History Timeline. We also broadcast the voices, music, and thought leadership of the community via our newsletters, social media, and programs.
We advocate for + strengthen the jazz community. We are building a more resilient and sustainable jazz community via programs such as Passages, a mentorship, storytelling, and intergenerational jazz jam initiative developed in partnership with jazz education leaders around the city; the CORE Cooperative, an entrepreneurship and wellness program for professionals at any career stage; and the Jazz Education X-Change, a searchable jazz education database that connects jazz families to opportunities for students. In coalition with leaders in other artistic disciplines, we also advocate for city arts funding. Additionally, we work to attract investment in the jazz community from regional and national funders, corporations, and individuals, and we stay engaged with policy makers and economic development leaders to plan for the future of Philadelphia as a world-class jazz destination.
We gather + connect a broad range of music listeners, educators, presenters, and musicians through our annual thought leadership conference, The Jazz Philadelphia Summit. We also convene the community via our Town Halls and Collective Impact Working Groups, and through music programming during Jazz Appreciation Month. These are all crucial means through which we bring the community together to help buoy and broadcast the rich history, present, and future of jazz in Philadelphia.
