Jazz Philadelphia and Collective Impact: A model of community change.
Jazz Philadelphia is a convener and advocate for the jazz community using a Collective Impact model of community change. We plan to achieve our goals in a distinctly “Philadelphia” way—with a diverse coalition marked by passion, grit, collaboration, authenticity, and creativity.
What is Collective Impact?
Collective Impact is a change model that’s been used in Philadelphia to tackle complex social issues; it’s also been used successfully in hundreds of initiatives throughout the country.
In this case, Collective Impact is being used to help support and advance the jazz community in Philadelphia, which is poised and ready to unlock its potential.
In the Collective Impact approach, community stakeholders are brought together by a “backbone” organization that serves as a convener and connector. The group then works to develop a shared vision and a common agenda, to identify mutually reinforcing activities that bolster and amplify each another’s work, and to develop measurement systems to track our collective progress.
Who Is Involved?
Jazz Philadelphia is comprised of a Leadership Team (2017), an Executive Team (2018) and Working Groups (in formation now) of representatives from key jazz stakeholder groups, including
musicians, venues, nonprofit groups, education, community development and civic engagement. Our structure will continue to evolve as the initiative moves forward.
The process also involves you. Jazz Philadelphia welcomes all individuals, organizations, companies, philanthropies, etc. who love jazz to join our work. We ask that you contact us to let us know how you would like to get involved in our Working Groups and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
