Immanuel Wilkins Releases New Record, “The 7th Hand”
Philadelphia’s own Immanuel Wilkins recently released his new record “The 7th Hand,” on Blue Note Records on January 28, 2022. Wilkins’ record displays a fabulous quartet including musicians Micah Thomas on piano, Daryl Johns on bass, and Kweku Sumbry on drums.
In 2020, Wilkins released his debut album called “Omega” which demanded attention in the jazz scene. The New York Times deemed “Omega” best jazz album of the year, applauding Wilkins’ quartet for “gliding and diving with a telepathic synergy through tunes that he composed with the nation’s racial ills in mind, and that thrive thanks to a buoyant, up-to-date sense of swing.” JazzTimes referred to the album as “the most important debut jazz recording in years.” Wilkins was also recently featured in the February 1, 2022 issue of the New Yorker.
Wilkins presented a special concert with Ars Nova Workshop at PhilaMOCA on January 27, 2022 at 8PM. Wilkins has a busy schedule ahead with shows in California, Oregon, New York, Washington DC, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Germany, among many other renowned musical cities.
