Coltrane’s Philadelphia presented by the Free Library of Philadelphia

Free Library Exhibitions and The Social Science and History Department, on the second floor of the Parkway Central Library, is pleased to present “John Coltrane’s Philadelphia,” as part of Coltrane 100 Philly.

The display focuses on Coltrane’s Philadelphia story. It uses images from books, records, and newspaper articles to illustrate his time working at the Campbell’s soup factory, playing in a youthful big band that practiced in a South Philly living room, studying music with Danis Sandole and Hasaan Ibn Ali, and even visiting the Parkway Central library itself to listen to records. The display also highlights many of the Philadelphia-raised musicians who played with Coltrane throughout his career.

This free, all-ages show is up now through Saturday, November 14.
