What It Is
The Jazz Xchange is Philadelphia’s central gathering place for jazz, a space where the people and organizations that make this music live in our city can find each other, align their efforts, and address the challenges and opportunities that shape Philadelphia jazz today and into the future.
The Jazz Xchange was born out of one of the most significant moments in Philadelphia’s jazz history. In 2026, Jazz Philadelphia launched the initiative to convene the community around John Coltrane’s centennial, uniting artists, organizations, venues, educators, and advocates around a shared commitment to honoring Coltrane’s legacy. What emerged from those first convenings was something larger than the centennial itself: a community that was hungry for connection, coordination, and a permanent home for cross-sector dialogue.

That hunger is what the Jazz Xchange is built to meet. Jazz Philadelphia convenes the Jazz Xchange not as the sole producer of jazz in Philadelphia, but as the organization committed to ensuring that all parts of this community are seen, heard, supported, and connected to one another.
