Enjoy a smooth night of jazz\, and participate in a jam session immediately following the second set. Musicians….Bring your instruments (Horns\, vocals\, etc.) \nFriday|November 12\, 2021 \nTwo Sets 7:30 PM & 9:00 PM \nJam session after 2nd set \n$15 – Purchase Tix thru EventBrite or Cashapp $BassPlayerFromEarth \nVenue: Bootless Stageworks1301 N Broom St. Wilmington\, DE 19806 \nMasks REQUIRED to enter\, and all COVID-19 protocols will be followed! \nSam Jones was born in Jacksonville\, Florida\, United States\, to a musical family. His father played piano and drums and his aunt played organ in church. In 1955\, he moved to New York City and began his recording career with Tiny Bradshaw\, before working with Bill Evans\, Bobby Timmons\, Les Jazz Modes\, Kenny Dorham\, Illinois Jacquet\, Freddie Hubbard\, Dizzy Gillespie (1958–59)\, and Thelonious Monk. He is probably best known for his work with Cannonball Adderley\, performing in his quintet from 1955 to 1956 and then again from 1959 to 1964\, and recording extensively for Riverside Records as both a leader and sideman. He later spent several years working with Oscar Peterson (1966-1970) and Cedar Walton (1972-1977). In the 1970s\, Jones recorded several albums as a bandleader for the Xanadu and SteepleChase labels. Jones wrote the jazz standards “Del Sasser” and “Unit 7” while working with Adderley. Other compositions include “Blue Funk”\, “O.P.”\, “Bittersweet”\, and “Seven Minds”. \nHe died of lung cancer in 1981 at the age of 57.

Two performances only\, Monday\, November 29th at 7:00pm and again at 8:30pm\, at the Our House Culture Center located at 6389 Germantown Avenue. \nBILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT is a celebration of the life\, legacy and music of William Thomas “Billy” Strayhorn (November 29\, 1915 – May 31\, 1967)\, the American jazz composer\, pianist\, lyricist\, arranger\, and LGTBQ artist\, best known for his successful three decade collaboration with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington. Ellington called Strayhorn “my right arm\, my left arm … my brain waves in his head\, and his in mine.”BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT features velvety-voiced-vocalist Tyrone Brown\, Dave Posmontier (keyboard and music direction)\, David Brodie (bass) and Doug Hirlinger (drums)\, playing original arrangements from the Strayhorn songbook such as “Take the ‘A’ Train\,” “Chelsea Bridge” and “Lush Life.” The evening performances coincide with the annual birthday tributes across the country and around the world – www.billystrayhorn.com. \nTwo performances only.
