In addition to Jazz Appreciation Month 2021 and the launch of our new website in early May, we are also pleased to announce two new programs that are in development:
Intergenerational Jazz Jams
The jam program will reach across the years that separate multi-generational music makers and unify them with the Jazz Songbook as their common language. It will take the best of the oral tradition and of proven traditional teaching methods to help advance musicianship. Our goal is to develop young musicians and create a respectful, mutually beneficial bond among the generations. An online mentorship program may launch in advance of in-person programming.
A Musician’s Co-op will be composed of several elements that would help artists build business skills, develop supportive networks, and find paid work.
One element is free education and workshop series led by industry professionals. Another is hands-on, business-building activities. A third is entering into a cohort of mutually-supportive musicians who will eventually have a powerful alumni network.
Musicians who complete the program will be eligible for other support: technical support on grant and residency programs from Jazz Philadelphia staff, eligibility to become a Jazz Philadelphia Ambassador (program in development), and a listing on the Jazz Philadelphia website, including a promotional photo, bio and links to your work.
